Muskoka / Adirondack Chairs
History of The Adirondack (Muskoka) Chair
He offered his Adirondack chair design for this Westport plank chair to his carpenter friend, Harry Bunnell, who was searching for a winter income. After finding out that it was a big hit with the Westport summer residents, Bunnell patented the design in 1905. Being made of hemlock, coming in the colors of green and brown, with the back angling back between 100-130 degrees, and built low to the ground, this style of outdoor furniture lives on even to this day. The modern version may be constructed with plastic, mimicking the original wood construction.
In the nearby Muskoka Lakes region, across the Great Lakes in Canada, the popularity of this design spread, giving way to the “Muskoka chair”.
The tradition lives on in our outdoor commercial furniture plastic lumber recreation of this classic Adirondack or Muskoka chair design, which is sure to please!
